
Salobrena is a white village situated on the Costa Tropical in the province of Granada. It has a population of 12,000 which doubles in size during the summer months as holiday makers take full advantage of its fabulous beaches and water sports. Salobrena at dusk Approximately 10 percent of the population are foreign residents, 2 percent of them are British. Many home buyers like the fact that it has a small British community but at the same time is still very Spanish. That said, you can still pick up your daily newspaper in English or go to the local supermarkets and have a variety of English foods. The village is perched on a rock which is topped by a Moorish castle built in the 10th century. The old part of the historic town has many interesting places to visit, the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora del Rosario is a 16th century Mudejar church built on the remains of the old mosque.
Many local artifacts and items of archeological interest are to be found in the Town Museum. When you are strolling around the old town known as the Casco Antigua, you will find little craft shops, bistros, and bars and restaurants serving local dishes, some have terraces that have stunning views over the sea and mountains. View of Salobrena Castle from Chiringuito The lower part of Salobrena has a more modern feel to it, and is bustling with shops, cafe bars, etc. Tuesday and Friday is market day where bargains galore are to be found. On your way down to the beach you can stop and feed the ducks in The Parque de la Fuente or have a drink at the park bar. There is easy parking along the sea front with a few spaces reserved for disabled.
The large rock that juts out into the sea is called the Penon this was a prison during the 1st and 2nd century then it was used for a Christian Burial Site. Today you can climb the steps and take in the views.
During the summer months there are various outdoor activities, street markets, fairs, and an outdoor theatre. To the west of Salobreña is the last working sugar factory in the small village of Caleta.

Salobrena beach during summer months Did you know that Spains premier Ski resort is less 1.5 hours from Salobrena - this means that from mid November until April you can be at the ski resort in the morning contemplating which beach you are going to be sunbathing on in the afternoon.

Did you know that when you order an alcoholic beverage it is the norm that your drink will be accompanied with Tapas - Traditional Spanish customs are still very much alive on the Costa Tropical. Did you know that the Costa Tropical is the last stretch of the main East/West motorway still to be completed - however this is changing fast with the work being carried out 24/7. Also the final stretch of the North/South Motorway is nearing completion between Lanjaron and Motril. This will soon mean that the Costa Tropical will truly be on the map with Salobrena centrally located in between 3 international airports - all of which will be within 1 hour of Salobrena.
