The Lecrin Valley consists of 15 whitewashed villages all with their own characteristics. Most of the villages are surrounded by orange, lemon, almond and olive groves. SaleresOne of the smallest of the white villages in the valley, with lovely walks down to the river or you can wander into the square where you will find the only local bar. AlbunuelasThis is close to Saleres, very traditional with interesting winding streets; visit the local bars for free tapas. ChiteSituated central to the valley, typically Spanish with narrow roads that twist and turn, like most of the Lecrin villages you are surrounded by the orange & lemon trees and the scent of the blossom is quiet intoxicating. Again there are bars, restaurants and even an antique shop selling a variety of interesting items that will keep you occupied. RestabalThis village has dramatic views overlooking the Beznar Dam, which is very picturesque why not take a picnic or have a B.B.Q or visit the local church, there is a famous restaurant which will cook you a whole leg of lamb stuffed with garlic and rosemary or their other famous dish, a crispy suckling pig, You do have to give them a day or two’s notice. Pinos del ValleThe highest of the villages which is divided into upper (alto) and lower (bajo), both areas have their own churches, the shops and bars are in the upper part but there is a pharmacy in both. Again fabulous views of the Beznar Dam, you can stop and park on the road which crosses over the dam and feed the fish which have voracious appetites Murchas
Small but quaint, hilly situated on the best side of the Beznar Lake, a few village shops and two bars. DurcalThis is a busy market town on the eastern side of the Rio Durcal plenty of shops, restaurants, indoor market and every Wednesday there is a large outdoor market where you can enjoy the busy atmosphere. Durcal is also known for its thermal springs. NiguelasNiguelas is set at the foothills of the Sierras and a dramatic gorge. Visit the Olive Museum, enjoys a drink and a tapa at one of the local bars. LecrinA small village with bars, restaurants, discos, banks, shops and hairdressers etc. There is a good bus service to the coast and also to Granada. MonducarThis little village has a large church, and a Moorish cemetery, traditional houses and close by is the Sierra Manducar with the remains of a Moorish castle. MelagisAnother popular village surrounded by orange and lemon groves, you can see the oranges being packed and graded at the small factory ready to be exported. There are several shops, cafes, bars & restaurants. BeznarA little whitewashed village close to the Beznar Dam with interesting houses and walks, nice peaceful village to relax in. PadulThis is another market town with all the usual amenities, including the popular public outdoor swimming pool. Padul also has a Light industrial area where you can buy all your DIY materials, furniture, gardening equipment. The old part of Padul has a lovely old church. ConcharThis village is closet o Durcal, this is t the foot of the Gorge, and some of the restaurants have terraces with fabulous views. Take a walk into the square and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere. AcequiasFlows with streams, springs and is very picturesque, small but full of character. All of the villages are visited daily by the baker, fishmonger, etc. and the gas man calls weekly with gas bottles. Each seller has his own distinctive van and announces himself by blowing loudly on the horn; you get to know whose horn is blowing.
